Construction
Why is WeatherproofĀ® the product of choice when designing and building external constructions?
Woodhouse Weatherproof is H3 treated and purpose built for external construction. Pre-primed and ready for installation, Weatherproof stands the test of time in Australiaās harsh climate.
What guidelines must I follow when handling, cutting and installing WeatherproofĀ® products?
Our full range of installation guides can be found here: https://www.woodhouse.com.au/installation-guides/
Ensure that all Weatherproof products are kept dry and away from moisture before installation to minimise the potential of degradation on-site. It is advisable to wear appropriate protective equipment when handling, cutting and working with all Weatherproof. Gloves, dust masks and goggles are recommended to protect against dust and airborne particles. Fill any nail holes and defects with a wood filler, sand and spot prime to restore the coating. Coat any exposed timber with an in-can preservative resealer (such as Protim XJ or Tanalised Enseal) and re-coat it with a quality primer (acrylic or oil-based) before final finishing. The important points to remember are to reseal the protective barrier created by the LOSP and re-apply a primer to repair the coating.
What fixings should be used when installing the WeatherproofĀ® range?
Use hot-dipped galvanised fixings to install all Weatherproof products. Check the manufacturerās recommendations and ensure that any fixing selected is non-corrosive.
How do I dispose of all WeatherproofĀ® offcuts?
Dispose of all offcuts and waste as you would normal building waste. Do not burn/incinerate any shavings, sawdust or offcuts in open fires or barbeques. Do not use shavings in gardens or landscaping.
Edgeline
Can I use Edgeline externally?
Woodhouse Edgeline has been manufactured for use as a premium internal fix-out solution. It is not recommended for external use.
Environmental
What is VOC?
āVOCā stands for Volatile organic compounds. These are gases emitted from certain solids or liquids. Some may have shortāand long-term adverse health effects. Due to the designs of modern homes, the amount of natural ventilation has decreased, which has raised the importance of ensuring products are VOC-free. The paint and glue used in the Woodhouse Edgeline range (indoor mouldings) are water-based and VOC-free.
What is FSCĀ®?
FSCĀ® is the āForest Stewardship CouncilĀ®ā, a global, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible forest management worldwide. FSCĀ® defines standards based on agreed principles for responsible forest stewardship that are supported by environmental, social and economic stakeholders. For more information, visit www.fsc.org
Maintenance
What is the long-term performance of all WeatherproofĀ® products, and how do you maintain them once installed?
The Weatherproof range is a long-term building product that has a limited manufacturer’s warranty on product durability and coating. All Weatherproof needs to be applied with two coats of quality finish paint and installed with recommended fixings. To ensure performance over time, re-coat the installed product following the paint manufacturerās advice. Providing all Weatherproof is maintained, it will give the end user years of service in the desired application. Details on the product warranties can be found in the Product Literature Section.
Painting
Do I have to sand the Pink Primer off before painting?
Definitely not! The Woodhouse Weatherproof Pink Primer has been developed by Dulux Industrial Coatings, a business unit of Dulux Group that provides high-quality, factory-applied industrial coatings products to the Australian and New Zealand markets and is committed to supporting the use and performance of these coating materials. The pink primer is a premium-grade, industrial oil-based coating that has been factory-applied to ensure its fit for purpose and readiness for installation and final top coating. Being a genuine primer, all products can be finished with two applications: premium acrylic or enamel topcoat paints.
Can I really finish with two topcoats of finishing paint, and is the coating a real primer?
Yes. Once all Woodhouse WeatherproofĀ® is installed, make sure that the Pink Primer is intact and has not suffered any degradation or damage while on site or during installation. If some areas need attention, use a quality timber wood filler, lightly sand them, and apply a quality primer (acrylic or oil-based) to touch them up. Follow this up with two topcoats of quality paint to complete the job. Maintain your project according to the manufacturerās guidelines and instructions.
Can I paint cladding a dark colour?
When choosing topcoats, we suggest selecting lighter colours with a Light Reflective Value (LRV) of 45 to 100 (Pure white = 100). Dark colours with an LRV of 44 or less will generate high surface temperatures, increasing the risk of resin bleed, cracking, and distortion, as well as the long-term performance of the top coating system. See our painting guide here for more information: https://www.woodhouse.com.au/painting/
Treatments
What is LOSP treatment and how does it protect the WeatherproofĀ® range?
LOSP stands for Light Organic Solvent Preservative, referring to chemicals employed in treating all Weatherproof products. H3 indicates the hazard level corresponding to the treatment quantity and the suggested worst-case application. Although this H3 treatment level is relevant for above-ground, weather-exposed applications, Woodhouse Weatherproof is applicable in these scenarios internally.
How do Kiln Drying and Finger Jointing affect the performance of the WeatherproofĀ® range?
Kiln drying guarantees that Weatherproof maintains dimensional stability and remains undistorted during onsite use. In straightforward terms, the timber preserves its original size, shape, and strength grading. All radiata are dried to an average moisture content of 12-15%, providing versatility for weatherproofing in various construction applications. Finger jointing involves eliminating defects from the wood fibre and mechanically connecting pieces of radiata to create longer straighter lengths.
Weatherproof
Where does the WeatherproofĀ® range come from, and what species of timbers are used in the manufacture?
All Woodhouse WeatherproofĀ® is made from premium plantation Radiata pine that has been specifically selected for the intended end-use application. Sourced from legally managed and sustainable forests, all wood fibre used in the manufacturing process is environmentally considerate.
What is Woodhouse WeatherproofĀ®?
Woodhouse WeatherproofĀ® is the name given to the range of Pink Primed LOSP Treated Radiata Architectural Pine designed for external construction. H3 LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative) chemically treated with an organo-biocide, all Weatherproof products are recommended for building projects outside the home, such as pergolas, decks and handrails, garages and carports. The Weatherproof range is primed with a premium industrial coating and is ready for installation and final finishing.
How competitive is the WeatherproofĀ® range compared to other product options?
Weatherproof Timber is a highly competitive option for all structures where a termite-resistant, pre-primed product is deemed necessary. With the F7 and GL8 Structural range, the end user has a credible option for building decks, pergolas, walkway portals, and gazebos.
