About
Family-owned and operated, Woodhouse Timber has been delivering excellence for over 40 years
Established in 1983 by Chris Woodhouse, who came from a background in timber sales, he saw an opportunity to close the gap in the timber market. Hardware stores and merchants needed a supplier that prioritised quality over cutting corners on price.
Built on quality products and excellent customer service, it has grown from its original warehouse in Brisbane to a national presence with five distribution centres in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, employing over 90 staff members and serving customers across Australia.
Quality and reliability
Committed to delivering high-quality and reliable solutions
From its early days, Woodhouse has prioritised long-term reliability over short-term cost savings, and this philosophy has allowed it to build strong, lasting relationships with suppliers and customers for over 40 years. Our focus on quality has built our excellent reputation, ensuring that the products we supply consistently meet the highest standards and are backed by genuine product warranties ranging from five to 50 years.
Part of that reliability comes down to how we deliver the timber to our customers. Rather than shipping bulk pallets, Woodhouse imports and repacks structural timber and mouldings at each of its five sites, so hardware stores and merchants receive exactly what they’ve ordered, when they need it, without carrying excess stock. This dedication drives our ongoing success and ensures Woodhouse Timber remains a trusted leader in Australia’s timber supply industry.
Innovation and product improvement
Focused on innovation and product improvement
At Woodhouse, we constantly improve our products to supply the best to our customers. We collaborate closely with suppliers to develop superior glues, coatings, and manufacturing techniques that enhance the durability and quality of our timber. One example is our longstanding partnership with Dulux, whose industrial primer coating is used across the Weatherproof range, giving builders and painters a consistent, ready-to-topcoat surface straight off the truck.
Our commitment to staying ahead of industry trends and technology drives us to embrace new processes, ensuring we adapt to the constantly evolving timber market.Whether that’s refining a coating, adjusting a treatment level, or changing pack sizes, we’re always looking for ways to improve the products tradespeople and merchants rely on every day.
Sustainability
Supporting a sustainable future
At Woodhouse, we’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint. Our timber products are sourced from responsibly managed, FSC-certified forests, including the radiata pine plantations of New Zealand that supply much of our range, keeping environmental impact to a minimum and providing a verifiable chain of custody.
We focus on eco-friendly manufacturing practices and are working to eliminate as much plastic from our packaging as possible. In 2024, this work was recognised under the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation’s (APCO) Beyond Best Practice program. When you choose Woodhouse Timber, you’re selecting high-quality products that improve your space and help create a greener future.
Over 40 years of trusted quality
Building strong relationships from day one
The company’s early collaboration with suppliers in New Zealand laid the foundation for a long-standing, trusted partnership. From the beginning, Chris worked closely with builders, listening to their feedback and understanding their needs. This direct industry input allowed him to develop products that address the challenges builders face on-site.
Products such as Weatherproof and Edgeline are prime examples of this approach. Weatherproof, a pre-primed, FSC®-certified (C120464) H3-treated timber, was specifically designed with builders’ needs in mind, made to be durable, easy to handle, and ready for immediate use. Edgeline, a range of FSC®-certified (C120464) interior mouldings, was created to make painting and installation easy. More than 450 individual products now sit across the wider Woodhouse range, each developed the same way, starting with a problem a builder or merchant actually has.
Our founder
Chris Woodhouse (1950-2025)
Chris Woodhouse founded Woodhouse Timber in 1983 with a vision to offer clients high-quality timber products at an affordable price. With a background in timber sales, he saw an opportunity to prioritise quality over price in an industry often focused on cost, building the company from a single Brisbane warehouse into a national operation. Chris passed away in 2025, and his legacy lives on through his sons, Mark and Drew, who continue to lead the company with the same commitment to excellence he started.
