What does LOSP stand for?
LOSP is an acronym for Light Organic Solvent Preservative – a treatment used to help protect timber from insect attack and decay. It’s commonly used for above-ground outdoor applications where timber is exposed to the elements, making it well suited to projects like cladding, fascia, pergolas and other exterior building applications.

How LOSP treatment works

- Resistance to termites and insect attack: The permethrin insecticide used in the treatment process is a synthetic pyrethroid that helps protect timber against termites and other wood-boring insects.

Because LOSP treatment uses a light organic solvent as the carrier for the preservatives, it’s well suited to manufactured timber products where maintaining dimensional stability is important.

Recommendations for maintenance and installation
Correct installation and maintenance are important for getting the best performance from LOSP treated timber.
When Weatherproof timber is cut, drilled, notched or rebated, the newly exposed areas should be resealed before installation. We recommend resealing all end cuts, notches, rebates and drill holes with an in-can preservative primer, such as Tanalised Enseal Clear Timber Preservative.
Repriming these areas with a quality timber primer, such as Dulux Timber End Seal, available in Woodhouse Pink, also helps prevent moisture from entering the timber and supports maximum dimensional stability in service.
Following the recommended installation and maintenance procedures helps maintain the protection provided by the original LOSP treatment, particularly anywhere the treated timber has been cut or worked on site.
